Ohio's Principles & Practice of Surveying Exam (OHPS)

Ohio’s 2-hour, state-specific Principles and Practice of Surveying examination (OHPS) is open book. The exam includes 35 multiple-choice questions and one written legal description.

The OHPS is administered in conjunction with the NCEES Principles and Practice of Surveying exam each April and October. Examinees who pass the national NCEES PS exam but fail the OHPS can reschedule to take the OHPS during a subsequent NCEES exam cycle. Conversely, you can schedule to take the NCEES PS exam if you passed the OHPS.

Comity applicants must schedule to take the OHPS in the Board office by appointment. NCEES exam rules and calculator policies are used when taking an exam in the Board office. The OHPS can only be taken twice a year.
