October 2020 NCEES Principles and Practice of Engineering Examination Update

The NCEES Principles and Practice of Engineering Examination [PE] is scheduled for October 22-23, 2020. Examinees must first apply to the Ohio Board for approval. The deadline for submitting a PE exam application in Ohio is Friday June 26, 2020. Once approved by the Ohio Board examinees must register with NCEES before August 20, 2020 to reserve your seat at the exam. You can contact NCEES at ncees.org.

All Ohio PE exam applicants that were approved by the Board for the April 2020 NCEES PE exams do not have to reapply to Ohio. Examinees previously approved by Ohio for the April 2020 PE exams may register directly with NCEES to reserve a seat for the October 2020 NCEES PE exams.

Step by step instructions on applying for re-examination for the April 2020 PE exam

  1. Download the one-page re-examination application from the Board’s website

  1. Complete the one-page application, sign the bottom and then return the application to the Ohio Board via email at jenifer.sword@pes.ohio.gov or by mail at 77 S High St Ste 2472 Columbus, Ohio 43215. Do not mail the application fee with the application. This will be in your cart on the online portal once your application is received.
  2. Once your application is received and processed, you will receive an email from the Board confirming your application. The email will also contain instructions for paying your application fee via the online licensing portal. Your application will not be approved until your application fee is paid through the online portal.
  3. You will need to create an account on the online portal. Step by step instructions for the online portal can be found on the board’s homepage.

  1. Once you’ve registered your account, from the dashboard, go to the cart in the top right corner

  1. Follow the instructions to pay the $75.00 application fee. Once the fee is submitted, you will get an email confirmation that your payment has been received and a receipt.
  2. Once the application fee is paid, please allow 1-2 weeks for your application to be approved. You will get an emailed approval letter once your application for re-exam has been approved by the board along with instructions to register with NCEES for the actual exam. The deadline for registration with NCEES for the actual exam will be posted by the end of November 2018. No exceptions will be made by NCEES for late registration.

Calculator Policy

There are no exceptions.  

Study Materials

The Board cannot suggest and does not supply study materials for NCEES exams.

The NCEES PE is open-book exams. The NCEES PS exam is closed book however a reference book will be provided at the exam site.  Information about allowed and disallowed reference materials can be found on the NCEES Exam-day policies web page. Board policy is the same as NCEES policy; there are no exceptions.

The 2-hour Ohio PS is an open-book exam. References can be found on our OHPS Surveying References page.
